Pool openings, closings & winterization

Two short weeks a year decide how the rest of the season goes. Opening a pool properly saves chemicals all summer; closing it properly saves equipment all winter.

Spring

Openings

Getting a pool back from winter is more than pulling the cover off. Everything that was shut down has to come back in the right order, and the water needs balancing before it gets used.

  • Cover removed, cleaned and stored
  • Plugs out, equipment reassembled and started
  • System primed and checked for leaks
  • Water tested, balanced and brought back to swimmable
Fall

Closings & winterization

The expensive failures happen over winter, to water left sitting in lines and equipment through a freeze. Closing properly is mostly about making sure nothing is left where it can freeze.

  • Water balanced before shutdown
  • Lines blown clear and plugged
  • Pump, filter and heater drained
  • Cover fitted and secured

Timing

Book earlier than feels necessary

Openings and closings are the one part of this job with no flexibility in the calendar. Everyone in the Lower Mainland wants their pool opened the same warm week in spring, and everyone wants it closed the same cold week in fall. The schedule fills at both ends.

If you know roughly when you want it done, get on the list before the weather turns. Call 778-990-4539.

Equipment installation

The shoulder seasons are also when it makes sense to replace equipment that limped through the last one — a pump on its way out, a heater that struggled, a filter past its media life.

Doing it at opening or closing means it's installed and tested before you need it, rather than in the middle of a hot July weekend.
